Gold Medals per million inhabitants.
← pause ← Olympic Wrap-Up: Jamaica Wins; Aussies Are 5th; U.S. Ranks 33rd; China Is 47th
This illustrates the importance of data visualization. I’ve seen this data a number of times in tables but the information doesn’t become clear until it’s presented properly.
Comment highlights from watching the Olympics this weekend:
sds:
- It was unfortunate when that Chinese gymnast made a mistake in her routine; now her dad will probably lose his left hand.
I wish I knew how much of a joke this was/wasn’t. I mean, really? Or just sorta/figuratively?
- If NBC had the guts to slip in a few comments about the big elephant in the room—China’s abysmal human rights record—my respect for them would skyrocket.
They actually did this during Bob’s interview with Bush last night.
Do wealthier countries take home more Olympic medals? Nice interactive chart.
Wow, our Medals per GDP count really stinks. This would be more interesting, though, if it averaged more than one year’s-worth of medals.
The SlateOlympics Twitter feed page is going to be good.
