This has been a long, long week. No idea why, but four-day weeks drag and grate. James Lileks

That does seem true sometimes, doesn’t it?

Okay head hurts now. I counted all the squares and I just don’t understand?

I give up.

FILE Magazine - Beach Van

VW vans are the theme of today, I think. On the way to work this morning I saw one on the road from a local car repair shop that was perfectly restored and looked like it ran great.

Then I saw one in the driveway of another repair shop still hooked up to a tow truck.

Now this.

Stacy has always wanted one to tool around in. Maybe it’s a sign.

I don’t buy it. I don’t buy this explanation or this one.

So I made my own little blocks in Excel and copy/pasted them, moved them around, and, I didn’t pay too much attention to the joints lining up but, it’s obvious that the same blocks have two different areas. No matter how you count it, the area of the triangle is 5 blocks X 13 blocks / 2. And the area of the first is the same as the area of the second with one block missing. Using the same pieces.

There are no curves and the pieces are the same size and cover the same area minus one block.

I don’t get it.
